QUINS' EXITING TRIO LEAVE WITH WIN OVER CATALANS
Harlequins' exiting trio of Scott Hill, Julian Rinaldi and Henry Paul were influential in their final game for the club, as the London club defeated third-placed Catalans Dragons 34–24 at the Stoop.
The visitors started off the stronger and broke the deadlock, after their pressure told, through an Aaron Gorrell penalty after 10 minutes.
Four minutes later Australian centre Adam Mogg sold a dummy and dived between the posts. Gorrell easily converted to take Catalans eight points up.
Stand-off Hill, 31, then instigated Quins’ fight-back on 19 minutes, as it was his clever pass that set 22-year-old winger Will Sharp on a 60 metre run that ended in a converted try. It was the speedster’s seventh try in an impressive debut season.
Two tries from Chad Randall, both converted by captain Rob Purdham, took the score to 22-8 at the break. Frenchman Rinaldi, off the interchange bench, then crashed over with 20 minutes remaining before the Catalans hit back.
Tries from Casey McGuire and winger Dimitri Pelo (2) brought the French club to within four points with only eight minutes remaining, but the home side ensured the result when Rinaldi crossed the whitewash again and Paul added the extra goal.
Though the win did not lift Quins from a tenth-place finish in the Super League, it was a fitting result for the departing trio, who were given a hearty send off by the Stoop faithful.
The Catalans, who were without leading-scorer Thomas Bosc, will hope to perform better when they host Warrington Wolves in their play-off match next Saturday.
