GARRIDO WELCOMES ROBINHO SIGNING
Manchester City left-back Javier Garrido admitted that he and his team-mates were utterly shocked when news of Brazilian star Robinho's record-breaking transfer to Eastlands filtered through.
The 24-year-old moved from Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he was one of 'los galácticos', to the Blues for £32.5m with only minutes of the transfer window remaining late on Monday.
And Spaniard Garrido, 23, has experienced first-hand what a handful the tricky winger can be, having played against him in La Liga.
"For me and the rest of the team the club's signing of Robinho has been a very positive surprise," he said. "I know him from my time at Real Sociedad and he is a very difficult player to mark for defenders.
"In England he can wreak havoc with his skills. I don't think a player of his level will have a problem adapting to English football."
Garrido, who joined City from Sociedad last summer for £1.5m, also believes that Robinho will be able to strike up a good partnership with fellow Brazilian Elano, who he used to play with at Santos - Pele's old team.
"Elano showed how excellent Brazilians can be in the Premier League last year," Garrido added. "Also that he is Brazilian and from the same team, Santos, can greatly help Robinho."
